Requirements

Open internationally to emerging and established artists at any career stage, applying independently or collaboratively. Applicants may submit up to 8 original works in any visual medium. Previously exhibited and unpublished works are eligible; previously published works require the artist to retain the rights needed for PJAS publication. Required materials include work samples, high-resolution cover-suitable images, title, medium and dimensions, and a brief description; context or an artist statement is optional. Three-dimensional, installation, and other non-flat work must be represented by a publication-quality photograph. Images must be JPEG/JPG files using sRGB for best results, show only the artwork without matting, frames, or background, be at least 2400 pixels on the longest edge, and not exceed 30 MB. The $14 fee covers up to 8 works, is non-refundable, and does not guarantee selection or publication. Early submissions are due September 4, 2026 and are prioritized if two works are both considered ideal cover pieces; the regular deadline is October 29, 2026. Artists retain copyright and ownership, but submission grants PJAS non-exclusive permission to reproduce selected work for the competition, associated issue, editorial coverage, website, newsletter, social media, and promotion, including reasonable cropping, resizing, and formatting without materially altering the work. Finalist status does not guarantee cover placement. Entries must be complete and paid by the deadline and cannot be accepted or changed afterward.
