The opportunity

The Museum for Art in Wood and NextFab invite Greater Philadelphia artists working in wood to apply for their 2027 Winter Residency. One fellow receives access to NextFab’s workshop space and a stipend for project materials to pursue research-based inquiries into sustainable creative practice. The residency culminates in a solo exhibition at NextFab, 1800 N. American Street. The detailed schedule lists the residency as January 4–March 4, 2027, with an exhibition March 11–June 10, 2027, and an artist talk March 12, 2027.

About this call

Requirements

Applicants must be based in the Greater Philadelphia region, work solely in wood or with other materials in combination with wood, and demonstrate technical proficiency with woodworking equipment. Reclaimed wood must comprise at least 50 percent of the fellow’s work during the residency. A jury awards one fellowship; the fellow receives a stipend for project materials and access to NextFab’s workshop space. There is no application fee. Jury results are to be emailed the week of November 16, 2026; artist acceptance is December 4, 2026. The detailed schedule specifies a January 4–March 4, 2027 residency, a March 11–June 10, 2027 exhibition, and a March 12, 2027 artist talk. An earlier paragraph inconsistently gives 2026 residency and exhibition dates, although the invitation and detailed schedule identify the 2027 session.
