VMFA Visual Arts Fellowship 2027–28

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts fellowship supports eligible Virginia visual artists, collaborative artists, graduate students, and undergraduate students. Fellowship awards are $8,000 for professional individual or collaborative artists, $6,000 for graduate students, and $4,000 for undergraduates, supporting work during the May 2027–May 2028 period.

Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents who have been legal residents of Virginia for at least 24 consecutive months before the deadline. The opportunity is for professional artists and full-time graduate or undergraduate students. Applicants must submit eight digital work samples. Eligible disciplines include photography, crafts, drawing, film/video, mixed media, new/emerging media, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and art history.
