Novella-length Fiction and Nonfiction Open Call | Sunspot Lit

Sunspot Literary Journal invites single novella-length works of fiction or nonfiction for publication, including memoir, literary, genre, historical works, scripts, and screenplays. The submission category also accepts graphic novels and single long poems. The application window is October 1–31, 2026. Digital editions of the journal are available for free download.

Submit one single work of fiction or nonfiction, including scripts and screenplays, from 29,001 to 49,000 words; a graphic novel of 51–100 pages; or a single poem of 86–105 pages. Story, essay, and poetry collections are not accepted in this category. Submissions that do not meet these guidelines will be declined without review. The journal's general guidelines also state that poetry may be up to 1,250 lines. All submissions must be unpublished, except publication on a personal blog. Translations and simultaneous submissions are welcome. Note the word count in the cover letter and use the correct submission form for the work's length; works longer than allowed by the selected form will be declined unread. Applicants may submit as many times as they like. The fee for this novella-length submission form is $20.
