Material Works Art Award 2026

An annual online visual-art award in which one selected artist receives a $2,500 purchase award in exchange for an original artwork of similar value. The artwork will join the Material Works collection, and shipping is covered by the organization. The winner receives an interview, permanent profile, social-media feature, and invitation to serve on future juries; shortlisted artists receive the interview, profile, and feature.

Applicants must be over 18, may enter once, and must upload 1–15 images plus an image list. An artist statement, bio, CV, and studio or portrait image are optional. Eligible practices include photography, painting, installation, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, mixed-media, experimental art, and conceptual art; music, writing, culinary, film, and time-based media are excluded this cycle. Selection is based on the submitted portfolio. The normal review fee is $40, but one no-cost application day will be announced on the organizer's social channels; outside that day, the fee cannot be waived. Applications close when either 300 applications have been received or December 6, 2026 arrives, whichever occurs first. The selected artist's $2,500 award is exchanged for an original artwork of similar monetary value, negotiated after selection; the organization covers shipping.
