Projects may include artworks, research, books, collage poetry, stop-motion collage films, exhibition preparation, or documenting an art practice. Dates are mutually agreed, and applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis.
About this call
Collage
Requirements
Open to collage artists internationally; the residency is designed for artists, curators, and writers. Applicants should have an articulated goal for their time in New Orleans. Projects need not relate explicitly to New Orleans, but priority is given to projects that need time there. Residencies last one or two weeks, with dates mutually agreed with Kolaj Institute. Apply with contact information, an artist bio of 50–250 words, a statement of artist practice of 50–300 words, and 5–7 examples of artwork. The residency costs US $900 for one week, including six nights of accommodation, or US $1,400 for two weeks, including 13 nights. A partner or companion costs an additional US $400 per week. A limited number of $250 grants are available to offset the residency fee for those with demonstrated financial need; grants cannot cover travel, lodging, food, or the companion fee. Artists are responsible for travel to and from New Orleans and food and lodging outside the residency. Accepted residents participate in a pre-residency assessment and planning process, work independently, and meet with the institute at the end to review progress and next steps. Residents have a private bedroom and shared kitchen and bathroom with shower; alternative off-site housing is available. The gallery and resident space are on the second floor. Collage tools, books, magazines, paper, and a printer are provided; artists may bring their own materials and discuss material needs during planning.
