About this call

IMPACT: how our deeds, words, and creative work influence the world and one another.

Requirements

Open to local/regional artists aged 18 or older who can drop off work in person. Out-of-town artists may enter; accepted work may be delivered only via UPS or FedEx and must include a return label. Work must relate to the theme, be original and created by the submitting artist within the last two years, and never have appeared in any of the center's art shows. Abstract art, collages, photography, jewelry, and other types of art are welcome. Explain any AI use and process in the medium field. No reproductions; photography, digital art, and hand-pulled prints must be limited editions of no more than 25, signed and numbered. All work must be visibly signed: 2D on front or back, 3D on bottom. A sold photography/digital print cannot be replaced with another copy of the juried artwork. Work must be suitable for viewers of all ages and free of copyright infringement.

Nonrefundable entry fee: $30 for up to three pieces for non-supporters, or $25 for annual supporters; $5 for each additional entry, with a maximum of five entries per artist. These additional-entry fees apply to supporters and non-supporters. For one 3D piece, the second and third entry boxes may show additional angles; when submitting three pieces, additional angles using the fourth or fifth boxes incur the additional fee. This option is only for 3D work. Complete the on-page form by December 10, 2026, 11:59pm; late submissions are not accepted. Pay on the payment page after submission to be considered. No pricing or statement amendments after the submission deadline. Check this page for selection notifications on December 18.

Provide name, email, artist website, social media handles separated by semicolons, phone, and address. For each work provide a JPEG/.jpg image no larger than 20MB, title and year created, medium including AI use, price, dimensions including frame, and a statement of 30 words or less. Rename image files on your device before uploading; instructions specify last_first_title.jpeg, while form labels also show lastname_firstname_title and helper text says lastname_title. Do not use special characters. Photograph work straight-on in good lighting and crop to the artwork without frames or background distractions. Use title case without quotation marks; enter prices without dollar signs and dimensions in the illustrated 14 x 20 format. The exhibition team may edit statements for clarity, length, or typos. Verify originality, proof all submitted information, and agree to the rules, liability statement, and image-use permission.

Drop off January 5, 2027, 10:30am–4:30pm only; no work accepted after 4:30pm. Label the back of 2D work and underside of 3D work with artist name and title. Pick up February 2, 2027, 10:30am–4:30pm. Work is inspected at drop-off and may be refused for presentation, craftsmanship, hanging problems, or differing from the juried submission. Presentation must be professional. Gallery-wrapped canvases with edges at least 1 inch wide must have painted sides and no visible side staples. Paintings on substrates less than 1 inch thick must be framed. Photographs on metal or aluminum sheets need no frames. Hanging wire must be tight and one-quarter down from the frame top; no sawtooth hangers or eyehooks, except built-in sawtooth hangers on metal/aluminum photographic works.

2D work may be no wider than 60 inches including frame and must weigh 40 pounds or less. A 3D base may be no larger than 20 inches square; artists must install and move 3D work over 40 pounds. Size or weight exceptions require contacting the curator before submission. Special installations require advance curator clearance. Contact exhibitions@artcentervb.org before the submission deadline for questions or approvals.

All work must be priced for sale and remain at the gallery throughout the exhibition. Prices must be consistent with the artist's other work; the center checks websites and social media. The center retains 30% of sales for invitational artists and 25% for resident and exhibiting artists of the center. Artists are notified of sales; sales checks are ready for pickup by the 10th of the month following exhibition close. Awards: first place $250, second place $200, third place $100, and six honorable mentions. Virginia Beach Art Center and The Artists Gallery accept no liability for artwork damage before, during, or after the exhibition or for copyright infringement. Submitting images grants Virginia Beach Art Center permission to use them for promotional purposes.
