Echoes: Our Collection as Inspiration

A members-only, in-person Salmagundi Club exhibition inviting artist members to create a new work inspired by a historical work in the Club's collection. Selected artists will exhibit the historical and new works side by side in the Hartley, Bridge & Moran Galleries from January 12 through February 5, 2027. The exhibition offers prizes totaling $2,000; these are conditional awards rather than guaranteed compensation. Exhibited works may be sold, with 70% of sales paid to the artist.

Create a new artwork inspired by a work from the Salmagundi Club collection.

Open only to artist members of the Salmagundi Club. Artists may enter up to two pairs of works, and submitted work must not have been shown previously at Salmagundi. The entry must include photographs of the historical inspiration work and the artist's completed new work; an image of the primary inspiration piece is required. Most accepted works may not exceed 40 inches in either outside dimension; sculpture may not exceed 48 inches high or 50 pounds. Images must be original high-quality JPEG/JPG files, cropped to the artwork, correctly oriented, no larger than 30 MB, and preferably at least 2,400 pixels on the longest edge. Accepted work must be professionally framed with hanging wire or otherwise professionally mounted for gallery display and must remain installed for the full exhibition. Artists delivering by shipment must use reusable art-shipping boxes, include a prepaid return label and the required hangtags, and label the package with the exhibition, artist, and work titles. The Club retains 30% of sales and the artist receives 70%; price-on-request is not accepted. Works must be removed promptly after the exhibition; uncollected work incurs a $50 monthly fee after 30 days and is considered abandoned after 180 days. Submitting work signifies acceptance of the liability terms, and images of accepted artwork may be used for Club publicity, advertising, or other purposes. Entries cannot be changed after the deadline, and incomplete entries are disqualified.
