Hosted by Bainbridge Island Museum of Art
Bainbridge Island, WA
The opportunity
A year-round print and book artist residency on Bainbridge Island for artists working in book arts, letterpress, screenprinting, Risograph, and related forms. Residencies last 2–4 weeks, with up to two artists at a time: one local and one traveling artist. The residency includes a $350-per-week unrestricted stipend, a $500 project materials budget, several round-trip ferry tickets, and a modest BIMA Bistro expense account. Non-local residents receive housing in a one-bedroom apartment within walking distance of the studio.
Requirements
Open to artists currently living in the United States or U.S. territories, regardless of citizenship. Artists at all career stages are encouraged to apply. Applicants should be familiar with at least one studio offering and comfortable working independently with the equipment or processes they propose to use; advanced familiarity is not necessary, and equipment orientation and instruction are provided at the start. Submit contact information, a project proposal, an artist bio, and 5–10 images of work samples; audio and video are not accepted. Submission limit: 1. Selection considers conceptual creativity, technical knowledge, and familiarity with at least one studio offering. Traditional and new technologies are encouraged. Local Puget Sound artists who do not require housing are welcome and receive the same studio and equipment access; local applicants who prefer or require housing should indicate this in their application. Entry fee: $0; optional entry fee: $25.
