Crossroads Artboards 2027-2028
Hosted by Charlotte Street
Kansas City, MO
The opportunity
Charlotte Street seeks proposals from Kansas City-area artists for commissioned images displayed on exterior, double-sided billboards at 125 Southwest Boulevard. Works will rotate approximately every three months from April 2027 through March 2028. Selected artists receive $1,000 each for completing and delivering print-ready images for one set of side-by-side billboards. Jurors seek dynamic, engaging, inspiring and aesthetically strong artwork authentic to the creative spirit of the Crossroads neighborhood.
About this call
Artists’ voices and work reflecting the creative spirit of the Crossroads neighborhood.
Requirements
For Kansas City-area artists. Submit at least 2 JPEG images or PDFs documenting the proposed Artboards; a narrative concept proposal of no more than 300 words; and a resume, CV, and artist bio including exhibition history, contact information, and website address if applicable. Artists may submit multiple options, but must describe all options and variables in the narrative. If submitting sketches instead of finished images, sketches must be as specific as possible, with the narrative and supporting materials providing a strong indication of the proposed final work. Three Kansas City-region jurors review submissions in two stages: initial scoring based on images, followed by in-depth review and group evaluation of top-scoring applications. Selected artists must produce two images for side-by-side display, printed on Eco-flex vinyl. Each Artboard is 27 feet long and 12.4 feet high; prepare digital images at 27 inches by 12.4 inches and 600 dpi. Charlotte Street handles printing and installation. The $1,000 commission fee is paid after final images are submitted to the printer. Proposed images must be solely the artist's artistic effort, unique and original, and must not infringe copyright; artists must secure all necessary permissions and releases for display. Artists retain copyright ownership in the work and associated plans, drawings, schematics, design studies, and models. Applications close December 4, 2026 at 11:59 PM Central Time. Application status will be shared January 11, 2027, with recipients announced January 19, 2027.
