Artist in Residence Program
Sunset, SC
The opportunity
A flexible-season artist residency at The Reserve at Lake Keowee in Sunset, South Carolina. One residency of up to one week is available annually, with access to exhibition, installation, work, and display spaces. The selected artist receives lodging, meals, reimbursement of travel expenses up to $500, and a weekly $1,000 stipend.
Requirements
Eligible disciplines are Visual Arts, Literature, Music, Performing Arts, Architecture, Design, and Dance. Selection is by committee review of the proposal and work. Applicants must send an artist statement, email address, phone number, a project proposal with projected costs, a current resume, at least three professional references, and 10 digital images or the musical equivalent of recent work. The proposal should describe the project, special requirements, and how the artist might incorporate the Reserve’s audience. The resident is responsible for materials and equipment, additional food and beverages beyond those covered by the Foundation, personal transportation, personal expenses, and acknowledging the Foundation in related publicity. The artist must participate in at least two interactions or events with property owners and the invited public, invite the community to experience the creation of the work, and be open to contributing a piece to the Foundation; donated work must be received within one year after the residency. Accommodations are limited to the artist and one partner; artists cover additional costs if children accompany them, and pets cannot be accommodated on site. The residency season is flexible, lasts up to one week, and is offered once per year.
