Residency Programs
2028 Deep Space Performance Residency
Highland Lake, NY
The opportunity
A one-week performance residency at the North American Cultural Laboratory for individual artists, groups, and ensembles developing new performance works. Residencies typically take place from April through November and provide access to NACL’s performance hall and artist residence, culminating in a public sharing with an invited audience. The program supports projects at any stage of development and prioritizes collaborative, creator-performer, performer-driven, and other experimental approaches. Residencies are partially subsidized, but selected artists may have to help raise funds and must cover transportation and a portion of food costs.
Requirements
Open worldwide to individual performing artists, groups, and ensembles creating new work, at any career stage. Teams may apply, and each residency can accommodate up to 15 participants. The program favors projects that benefit from NACL’s space and time and is inclined toward creator-performer, performer-driven, or collaborative creation models rather than standard script-based productions. The residency lasts one week, includes a public sharing with an invited audience, and lists an artist talk or presentation as an additional expectation. Pets are not allowed. Selected artists or companies must arrange and fund transportation to and from NACL and cover food costs of $12 per person per day; the listed current minimum is $72 per individual for a six-day residency. Depending on available subsidy, selected applicants may also be asked to help raise funds toward residency costs. There is no application fee.
