2027 Residencies

Applications are open for Saltonstall's 2027 free, stipend-supported residencies for New York State artists and writers. Individual 1- to 4-week sessions take place near Ithaca between mid-May and late October, including dedicated one-week sessions for artist/writer parents and full-time caregivers. Cohorts include writers, photographers or filmmakers, and visual artists.

Applicants must be year-round residents of New York State or one of the Indian Nations located therein, be at least 21 years old, and apply individually. Collaborations and partners working together cannot be accommodated. Eligible categories include poetry, fiction, photography, filmmaking, painting, sculpture, and visual arts; the directory also lists drawing, mixed media, moving image, and writing. Sessions last 1 to 4 weeks. Dedicated one-week sessions are for artist/writer parents with at least one dependent child under 18 at home and full-time caregivers; children, spouses, partners, and collaborators cannot be accommodated. All accepted artists and writers receive $100 per week, with additional needs-based support up to $1,000; accepted parents and caregivers in the one-week sessions receive a $500 stipend. The residency and application are free.
