2027 Mountain Maryland Plein Air

A national juried plein-air competition and exhibition managed by the Allegany Arts Council in Cumberland, Maryland. Up to 30 artists will be invited to participate in the June 13–19, 2027 event, with conditional awards totaling almost $14,000. Selected work will be exhibited and offered for sale, with the council retaining a 35% commission on sales.

Nationally open to artists, with one submission permitted. The $40 entry fee includes three digital images broadly representing the applicant’s plein-air body of work, and an artist statement is required. Images must be properly cropped and in focus, use JPEG/JPG format, be at least 1,200 pixels on the longest side, and be no larger than 5 MB. Applications must be submitted through CaFÉ; entries sent directly to the sponsor are not accepted. Selected artists must provide a digital photo and a 100–200-word biography for promotion. Artists are responsible for lodging costs, although host housing may be requested but is not guaranteed. The Allegany Arts Council retains a 35% commission on artwork sold during the event, all sales must be handled through the council, and private sales during the event are prohibited.
