The program welcomes visual artists, writers, composers, choreographers, multidisciplinary artists, musicians, performance artists, scholars, translators, and more.

Requirements

Apply online through the Anderson Center's Submittable portal by January 12, 2027 at noon Central Standard Time. Applications include an artist statement, CV, two references, and work samples. The application fee is $30; there is no participation fee. Month-long residencies are offered in May, June, July, August, and October, with rare exceptions for two-week stays. September is reserved for the separate Early Career Artist Residency-Fellowship Program. Specific session dates are listed in the application form; applicants should plan requested dates carefully and provide detailed availability. Residents live together in a five-member cohort. Visual artists receive a 15' x 26' studio and must supply their own materials. Artists are responsible for travel to and from Red Wing; the Center provides pickup and drop-off at MSP airport. Room, board, and workspace are provided. A chef prepares dinners Monday through Friday and shops for groceries; residents prepare their own breakfasts, lunches, and weekend meals. Residents must participate in at least one hour of community engagement, customized with staff to facilitate a mutually beneficial exchange with the Red Wing community.
